About Us

Serving the Intermountain West - We are located in Idaho's Upper Snake River Valley. We can see the mountains of Montana in the north, and The Tetons of Wyoming in the distant east. 

Beginnings - In 1984, Steve and Beverly Gilger began doing shoe repair in Dubois Idaho.  Several years later, they were retailing Whites Boots and some other brands to compliment their shop. Steve also sourced materials for Whites and had a great relationship there. With influence from the western world, Otto White's method, and others, they began building their own custom boots with a focus on laceups. They continued to sell Whites all through the years along side their own. 

Abe Boots - After 30 years and a lot of happy customers, Steve and Bev were ready to retire and looked for someone to take the business. Abe had some experience in shoe repair and other leatherwork. He apprenticed for 5 months before assuming Dubois Leather & Shoe and moved the business 20 miles out to Monteview, where he changed the name to Abe Boots. Abe has focused on Custom fire boots since 2015, building primarily on the 4811 last.  We continue serving a variety of industries with several styles of quality Laceup work boots and we plan to expand our line to accommodate more working men, like yourself.

Our Leather - We are building with Full Grain Leather, sourced from US tanneries such as SB Foot, Seidel, Horween, Law Tannery. Our heavy leather insoles set us apart from most store bought shoes. This along with a stitched leather welting makes the difference between a work boot that lasts months and a workboot that lasts years.
